Want To Be Married Within A Year? Sit In The Wishing Chair!
As I was watching "America's Got Talent", I was reminded of my trip to Seattle several years ago. It was such a beautiful city. I visited all the tourist attractions, including Pikes Place, Space Needle, Seattle Aquarium, but the most memorable place for me was Smith Tower. The view from the observation deck of this building was breathtaking, with views of Mt. Rainier, and the Olympic and Cascade Mountain ranges. Plus, it's the closest view in town of Safeco Field, the Colman Ferry Terminal, and Pioneer Square. This view out did the view from the Space Needle!
The crown jewel of the Smith Tower is the legendary 35th floor Chinese Room. The room’s name derives from the extensive carved wood and porcelain ceiling and the elaborately carved blackwood furniture that were gifts to Mr. Smith from the Empress of China.
The observatory’s furnishings include the famed Wishing Chair. The chair, product of the skill of a Chinese carver and quite likely the skill of an early day virtuoso publicity man, incorporates a carved dragon and a phoenix, which when combined, portends marriage.
Hence the chair came with the sentimental legend that any wishful unmarried woman who sits in it would be married within a year. Some validity to the claim was noted, or at least implied, when Smith’s daughter was wed in the observatory a year following her visit to the building’s opening.
Of course, I had to sit in the chair, as I was a unmarried woman. LOL. I'm sorry to say, I did not marry within a year of sitting and wishing in this "Wishing Chair". No harm in trying, I guess! Maybe I did not wish HARD enough! Check it out if you are ever in Seattle.

Cops Should Knock Like Girl Scouts Selling Cookies!!
One of my favorite TV shows is 'The First 48' on A&E. I would watch this show daily, all day when I was on medical leave for surgery last year. I continue to watch it daily now while on my mental health leave.
It is a reality show about murders in different cities in the US, and just like the title states, it is the first 48 hours of the investigation. From the call to the murder scene to the arrest of the suspect.
I swear I could either commit a murder and get away with it or I could solve and murder case put in front of me, from everything I learned on this show. Totally kidding about the murder part..LOL..I couldn't harm a fly..ok maybe a fly, but not a human.
The reason for this post is that I notice in all reality cop shows that the cops have a very distinctive knock..very hard & very loud. No normal person would ever knock like this. Im not saying cops aren't normal. They just have a certain way of knocking. I am sure this knock is taught to them in the police academy and it is standard practice.
What I do not get is, have they not learned from experience that more than half the time, if not more, no criminal will answer the door when they hear that knock. Of course, they are going to hide, they know the cops are at the door, because of the knock.
Don't you think if you tapped on the door, like a girl scout selling cookies, you would more than likely get more success at having the people answer the door when searching for a criminal. They can't hide if they don't know you are coming.

The Banks Make You Think
SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT!!!
Imagine that you had won the following prize in a contest:
Each morning your bank would deposit $ 86,400.00 in your private account for your use.
However, this prize had rules, just as any game has certain rules.
The first set of rules would be:
1. Everything that you didn’t spend during each day would be taken away from you.
2. You may not transfer money into some other account.
3. You may only spend it.
Each morning upon awakening, the bank opens your account with another $ 86,400.00 for that day.
The second set of rules:
1. The bank can end the game without warning; at any time it can say, “It’s over, the game is over!”
2. It can close the account and you will not receive a new one.
What would you personally do?
You would buy anything and everything you wanted, right?
Not only for yourself, but for all people you love, right?
Even for people you don’t know, because you couldn’t possibly spend it all on yourself, right?
You would try to spend every cent, and use it all, right?
ACTUALLY, THIS GAME IS REALITY!!
Each of us is in possession of such a “magical” bank.
We just can’t seem to see it.
THE MAGICAL BANK IS TIME!
Each awakening morning we receive 86,400 seconds as a gift of life,
and when we go to sleep at night, any remaining time is NOT credited to us.
What we haven’t lived up that day is forever lost.
Yesterday is forever gone.
Each morning the account is refilled, but the bank can dissolve your account at any time…….
WITHOUT WARNING.
WELL, what will you do with your 86,400 seconds?
Aren’t they worth so much more than the same amount in dollars?
Think about that, and always think of this:
Enjoy every second of your life, because time races by so much quicker than you think.
So take care of yourself, and enjoy life!

Why Do We Tend To Whisper In The Dark? Earth Hour 2010
Earth Hour 2010 has come and gone in Calgary. This was the first time I participated in Earth Hour. I was saddened by the sight of lights on in my complex. The majority of the units had all their lights.
Although the lights were still on in my complex, the rest of Calgary got on board. Some of the buildings downtown that participated in Earth Hour; Telus Tower, Old PetroCan Tower, Calgary Tower, Hyatt, Bow Tower, Municipal Building(Oz), Public Library, and the Epcor Centre.
The results for Calgary were a little disappointing compared to last year. Calgary saw a reduction of 5 megawatts, 2009 was a better result, as we saved 10 megawatts. Regardless, reduction is reduction is reduction. The 5 megawatt reduction in Calgary during Earth Hour equates to 4 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions that were not emitted into the air.
The only question I have that came out of Earth Hour 2010; Why do we tend to whisper when we are in the dark?

What Has The World Come To?
As I sit here watching the #yyc feed on Twitter about the hostage taking in a SW Calgary Junior High it makes me wonder "What is the world coming to?". I know the world isn't a perfect place but it is becoming a more violent and dangerous place everyday.
Times like this make me look back at how things were back in the day, when I was in Junior High. We didn't have knives, guns, or weapons of any kind. We weren't perfect either, I can remember the buzz around school when there was going to be a fight. Half the school would show up in the field behind the school. Most fights were between boys, but there were the odd girl fights too.
I have never been a fan of violence, but I never saw anyone get severely hurt in any of these fights, nor did I ever see someone get killed. I never saw anyone ganging up on anyone, people just stood by and let the 2 fighters sort out their differences. Most fights never lasted more than 5 minutes. A few punches thrown and connected and it was over.
Now a days, kids are carrying knives, rifles, hand guns and even automatic machine guns. I feared for my daughter growing up, I always warned her to not look certain types in the eyes, fearing that they may kill her for just looking at them the wrong way. And even now I tell her to keep her keys between her fingers and be prepared to stab someone in the eyes if they jump her. She has never been jumped but her boyfriend has, so I always knew it was possible, but for her it hit home when he was jumped.
I live in a fairly safe neighbourhood in Calgary but have had two incidents where police have been at my door asking if we had seen any activity due to severe attacks. Once was for a carjacking and the person was beaten nearly to death. The other time was someone had been jumped and severely beaten. This is happening in my back yard.
What happened to the days where you let your kids play outside until the street lights came on? Playing hide and seek or knock on ginger were the time killers we used. The days when you could walk to the 24 hour convenience store at any time of night? Honestly, I blame it on TV, video games and absentee parents.
Growing up I remember spending most of my time outside, not in front of a TV. Saturday morning was TV time. Video games were the likes of pong. Although, latch key kids became well known in my generation, my parents were still very involved in what I was doing with my time.
Kids today are watching movies that depict horrible violence. Rating these movies doesn't stop these kids from watching them. With the invention of the internet, kids are viewing things that would probably shock the most violent person and they never have to step into a movie theatre. TV isn't any better. But video games are the worse to blame...games like GTA where you are completing levels by killing people on the streets. These games are for adults...but kids are playing them too..where are the parents, is my question.
So as I sit here questioning what is happening with world I slowly realize that it is the core family values that is missing from the lives of people/children today. Children need constant guidance and the only one to blame for lack of guidance is the parent. As soon as we return to our core family values we may be lucky enough to see a swift change in how we are treating each other in the world today.

AVATAR: Will History Repeat it's Self?
I just finished watching AVATAR. Amazing movie kept my interest for the entire 2.5 hours. Highly recommend this movie.
This movie definitely got me thinking. When humans find another livable planet with a living race on it, are we going to destroy the planet's natural resources for the mighty dollar, the same way we have destroyed earth's? I hope not. I hope that we learn from our mistakes and cherish and honour natural resources they way they should be and not take them for granted the way we have.
And if there are other living beings on the planet I hope they will fight hard the way the AVATARS did to not allow any foreign visitors, like ourselves, to come in and destroy what it so beautiful. NATURE. Shame on the human race if history repeats itself.

Lions and TIGERS and Bears..OH MY!
Tiger, Tiger, Tiger, What have you gotten yourself into? When it comes to celebrity scandals like this I usually keep to myself. I truly believe that what celebrities do in the privacy of their own home is there business and no one else.
Is it not enough that Tiger made a statement saying he would like to keep his personal sins and mistakes private. I understand there is major money paid out to these celebrities to use their squeaky clean image for endorsement purposes, but does that really mean Tiger owes us all the details of his personal fall from grace? I do not think so. Do these alleged affairs make Tiger less of a golfer? Did he lose his special golf powers when he slept with these women? What do these women do with those powers once they have them?
The point I am getting at is, yes, Tiger is human, sorry to disappoint all you avid fans who thought he was super human or non human. Tiger is a man who is as susceptible to temptation as the next guy. Yes, it is disappointing that an idol to millions would cheat, but what makes the cheating worse to me, is that his wife was pregnant. Shame on you, Tiger. None the less, I respect your right to privacy in dealing with this family tragedy. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family during these trying times.

Well I have finally entered the world of blogging. I am looking forward to sharing my thoughts, ideas, feelings and opinions about everything from current affairs, politics, health matters, music, movies, war and even a peek into my own personal life.
It isn't going to be all fun and games but it isn't going to be "oh so serious". I hope to find a happy medium between funny and serious.
